Don Knox MBACP (Snr. Accred.)

.

Our therapist Don Knox is a senior accredited member with the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and is UKRC (United Kingdom Register of Counsellors) registered. He was trained in the UK and his training includes:

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy from the Gestalt Centre London UK
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Gestalt Psychotherapy from the Gestalt Centre London UK
  • Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling from the Centre for Personal and Professional Development London UK

Don developed his counselling and psychotherapy style from the Humanistic approach. This includes Client Centred and Gestalt Therapies. He works with clients, assisting them, in a safe environment, to be more accepting of themselves. By exploring current feelings and emotions each client is supported in addressing the issues that bring him/her to therapy.

Don works with a wide variety of issues and specialises in relationship, identity and sexual issues. With a backgroung in youth work he continues to offer counselling to young people especially those with complex issues. He is experienced in working with those with drug and alcohol issues as well as sexual addictions. He is also an experienced couple’s therapist.

Don moved to Thailand in 2008 and set up Bangkok Counselling Service after noticing the lack of accessible therapeutic services while visiting friends. “A friend asked me to recommend a therapist and I thought it would be easy to find a practitioner in a big city like Bangkok. Through the research I did, I realised that services like Bangkok Counselling Service didn’t exist. I didn’t consider setting one up until a rainy afternoon six months later in London. Little did I know at the time, just how difficult it would be. But everything worked out well in the end. I successfully established a counselling and psychotherapy practice as a legitimate business here”.

Don, originally from Ireland moved to Bangkok from London, where he ran a successful private practice, in addition to working part time for the Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) the UK’s largest HIV and sexual health charity NGO.

Don joined THT in 2000 to set up a young people’s counselling service where he continued as the young people’s counsellor for 8 years. In 2002 THT received the BACP award for innovative work for the development of the young people’s counselling service. Don is a senior accredited member of the British association for counselling and psychotherapy (BACP) and works to their code of ethics.

Dr. Adipat (Andy) Chaichanasakul

Our therapist Dr. Adipat (Andy) Chaichanasakul has recently returned to Thailand after many years living and studying in the USA. He was awarded his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri at Columbia and completed his additional trainings at the Stanford University. He has returned to his home Bangkok to offer his wealth of experience and knowledge to clients in both English and Thai.

Through his work in the helping profession, he discovered that people seek emotional help for various reasons. Sometimes they may feel challenged by life, sad, lonely, depressed, anxious, or unable to cope. Perhaps painful memories about the past, traumatic events in the present, or worries about the future may hinder their ability to enjoy life and reach their full potential. “For more than ten years, I have felt honoured and privileged to have had opportunities to walk along side and guide many people to their own path of wellness,” Andy says.

Andy developed his therapeutic approach from an Integrative Psychotherapy and Multicultural Counselling Theory. “Integrative” refers to the integration of theories. In his work, he brings together affective, cognitive, behavioural, physiological, environmental, and cultural factors to support his clients. Through this work his clients will be empowered, they will re-discover equilibrium in their lives and achieve a sense of well-being. His training and qualifications include:

  • Pre-doctoral Certification from the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Vaden Health Center, Stanford University, USA
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology with a minor in Multicultural Psychology and Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA
  • Master of Art in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA

Andy has a particular interest in supporting clients with drug and alcohol issues, relationship issues, family issues, career satisfaction, sexuality and gender identity, phase of life problems, trauma, grief and loss, as well as with anxiety and the range of depression related disorders. In addition, he has a particular interest in working with clients with eating disorders and food related addictions. Andy has been a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) for over 10 years. He works to and adheres to the APA’s code of ethics.

All Counselling and Psychotherapy sessions are strictly confidential. Each therapist works to the code of ethics of his accrediting body. Bangkok Counselling Service as an organisation works to the code of ethics set out by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy as well as adhering to legislation governing mental health services in Thailand.
